Tab Newcomb's Home Track Heroics at Dubbo State Titles - Race Report: 4th May – Dubbo, NSW
On the 4th of May, Kawasaki Team Green Rider, Tab Newcomb, hit some local turf at Dubbo Dirt Bike Club for Round 2 of the NSW MX State Titles. Read through to find out more about the round in Tab's own words.
After plenty of travelling, it was awesome to finally race a state round at a home track I know well and feel confident on. Following a push from a collective group of riders and supporters, it was also great to see Women finally given their own separate class with their own gate drop this weekend.
Qualifying:
I kicked off the day qualifying 4th against a solid field of competitors on an unreal track.
Race 1:
I got a solid top 5 start, made an early move into 3rd, and held that position by riding my own race.
Race 2:
Another strong start saw me running in 3rd. I held steady for most of the race, then made a move for 2nd on the final lap.
Race 3:
Race 3 was a bit more eventful. I put myself in a great position early with a top 3 start, but a few small mistakes and a tip-over pushed me back to 5th. Like in Moto 2, I experimented with some riskier lines to make up time, figuring out which ones worked, and which were costing me. I managed to claw back to 3rd by the end of the moto, securing 2nd overall for the day.
Reflection:
The track made for some unreal racing and was prepped to perfection. I'm starting to feel more at home in the rough stuff, which is a great step forward. A huge shoutout to the Dubbo Dirt Bike Club for their hard work in making it such a successful event.
