Following further medical consultations and specialist assessments, Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki can confirm
that Dean Ferris will unfortunately miss the remainder of the 2026 Australian ProMX Championship as he continues
his recovery from injuries sustained at Round 4 in Toowoomba.
While the decision is a disappointing one for both Ferris and the team, the priority remains ensuring he makes a full
recovery.
Ferris had shown strong form throughout the season and was building momentum alongside the Penrite Racing
Empire Kawasaki squad, with both rider and team confident they were closing in on a breakthrough result.
Dean Ferris:
"Firstly, I'm just thankful that I'm generally ok, because a spinal injury is always scary. But honestly I'm really
bummed for the team. So much effort has gone into this season and everyone has been awesome. We got the
bike so dialled in recent weeks and I remember thinking this on the sight lap – that my bike feels so good. All
the people and products that support Empire, thank you so much for all the support provided for the team
and myself this year."
Team Owner Tyson Cherry expressed his disappointment at seeing Ferris' season come to an early end while
acknowledging the significant contribution he has made to the team throughout the season.
Tyson Cherry – Team Owner:
"Unfortunately Dean won't be back for the remainder of the season.
We wish Dean a speedy recovery and are really disappointed to see him sidelined, as we felt we were on the
verge of a breakthrough result together. Everything was coming together heading into Toowoomba, Dean was
riding unreal and had the bike where he wanted it. Unfortunately, things didn't end the way we had hoped,
and the circumstances were beyond anyone's control. We'd like to thank Dean for his commitment, professionalism,
and the positive impact he's had on the team. He's been an outstanding athlete and a great role
model for the younger generation of riders."
While the loss of Ferris is a significant blow, Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki will continue its 2026 ProMX campaign
with Brad West set to return to competition following recent wrist surgery. West has been progressing well through
his recovery and is eager to get back behind the gate for the remainder of the championship.
The team has also recently announced that Ryan Alexanderson will join the Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki
program, stepping in to help fill the vacancy left by Ferris' injury. Alexanderson will line up alongside West as the
team remains committed to chasing strong results throughout the second half of the season.
The entire Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki team extends its gratitude to Dean for his efforts throughout the 2026
season and looks forward to supporting him through his recovery journey. Everyone at the team wishes him a full and
speedy recovery.
